You will often see on this website and in our publications the term "Rescue." "Rescue" is a term used around the world in "Rescue Missions, Union Gospel Missions, and City Missions". These missions are daily providing the homeless, poor and addicted with shelter, food, clothing, medical help, sound biblical counseling programs and a host of other services. These services are designed to help the individual break the cycle of homelessness and to live a life free from addiction and other destructive habits.
Experience has taught us in over 100 years of working with the homeless, poor and addicted that the work of Rescue - the coming together of believers from various backgrounds, congregations (churches) and denominations - is a great unifying factor and accomplishes, in many ways the prayer (John 17:20-23) of Yeshua, Jesus for the unity of believers.
We believe God has established RESCUE Israel for the expressed purpose of accomplishing the work of Rescue in the Land of Israel.
RESCUE Israel is a organization whose purpose is to help fund and build the work of Rescue, helping the homeless, the poor and the addicted find help and hope so they can become godly, productive citizens in the Land of Israel.
The homeless and the addicted in Israel are the same as in an other country: They are the least and last of the society in which they live. They are generally forgotten by most and treated as outcasts. However, they are just like you and me. They have, or at least had at one time, hopes and dreams about a better life. They want to be treated with dignity and respect. Most do not want to be where they are at but they do not know how to change, do not have the resources to help them change and generally do not know where to turn for help.
RESCUE Israel is a non-denominational, intercongregational work to demonstrate the love of God through practical ways and in this: to help bring about lasting change: hope from despair, meaning from meaninglessness, sobriety from addiction, a life of purpose from the ash heap of brokenness and a new life in Yeshua, Jesus the Christ, the Messiah of Israel. We work hand in hand with many organizations in order to accomplish our Mission and Vision.
George Wehnes is the Founder and Executive Director of RESCUE Israel. He brings the experience of 20 years in the work of Rescue and was the founder and director (1995 to 2004) of a the Olympia Union Gospel Mission in Olympia, WA.
